Padang City (ANTARA) - The Hajj Financial Management Agency (BPKH) has partnered with Andalas University (Unand) in an effort to accelerate the regeneration of Indonesian Hajj pilgrims through the interactive BPKH Insight programme titled Muda Naik Haji.

‘There is a paradigm that Hajj is the concern of older people or retirees. In reality, undertaking Hajj requires istita’ah, and financial and physical capability, which are found in the productive age,’ said Harry Alexander, a member of the Board of Executives of BPKH RI, in Padang, West Sumatra, on Wednesday.

He said that, in essence, Hajj is a physical worship that requires health and financial capacity that are possessed in the productive years, so the widespread belief that Hajj is synonymous with old age is not correct.

He noted that BPKH essentially highlights Generation Z’s consumption patterns, which tend to spend money, or spend only for lifestyle purposes.

Therefore, financial literacy provided to the younger generation is hoped to become a new paradigm for Generation Z to start considering more constructive things, one of which is to perform Hajj.

In general, he explained that the DPR RI together with the government and BPKH has set the Biaya Penyelenggaraan Ibadah Haji (BPIH) for 2026 at around Rp87 million. Of that amount, the Bipih paid by pilgrims is around 68 percent or Rp54 million. The remaining 32 percent, equivalent to Rp34 million, is subsidised through the investment benefit value produced by BPKH.

‘This year, the value of investment returns distributed by BPKH reaches Rp12.1 trillion, with Rp8 trillion allocated for pilgrims who depart and Rp4.4 trillion channelled to the virtual accounts of the waiting-list pilgrims,’ he explained.
