BPKH and Muhammadiyah Strengthen Hajj Financial Literacy
Jakarta – The Indonesian Hajj Financial Management Body (BPKH) continues to expand its reach in education and cross-sector cooperation to optimise hajj financial governance.
This time, BPKH collaborated with Muhammadiyah Central Leadership (PP Muhammadiyah) to organise a “Socialisation and Education on Hajj Financial Management with Pilgrimage Partners” activity and simultaneously launched the strategic programme of the Environmental Affairs Council (MLH) of PP Muhammadiyah in Jakarta on Friday 13 March 2026.
The event, attended by 100 participants, aimed to increase public awareness of hajj fund management and encourage an increase in the number of hajj pilgrimage registrations in Indonesia.
This initiative represents the implementation of Law No. 34 of 2014, which empowers BPKH to cooperate with external institutions to ensure professional financial management.
Harry Alexander, a member of BPKH’s Executive Board, stressed that this partnership is part of the institution’s responsibility in safeguarding the public trust. “Hajj financial management must be carried out with transparency and accountability. Our main focus is to ensure that these funds are managed in the best interest of hajj pilgrims and the welfare of Muslims in Indonesia,” Harry said.
Beyond focusing on financial literacy, the activity also marked a progressive step with the launch of the Environmental Affairs Council (MLH) Programme of PP Muhammadiyah for 2026. One of the key breakthroughs introduced was the Green Hajj initiative.
M Azrul Tanjung, Chairman of MLH PP Muhammadiyah, explained that this collaboration brings a new dimension to hajj pilgrimage implementation that is more environmentally friendly. “We are launching the Green Hajj initiative to educate on waste management from the source together with BPKH. This is a concrete step in protecting the earth through religious instruments,” Azrul said.
Similar support was conveyed by the Chairman of PP Muhammadiyah, Buya Anwar Abbas. “Discussions and hajj financial literacy are very crucial to provide correct understanding to prospective pilgrims, whilst also strengthening the national pilgrimage ecosystem,” Buya Anwar said.
