JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com — Minister of Social Affairs Saifullah Yusuf has openly discussed the suspension of BPJS Kesehatan membership in the Penerima Bantuan Iuran Jaminan Kesehatan Nasional (PBI JKN) category.

He affirmed that hospitals must continue to serve patients even though their membership status has been suspended due to data adjustments.

“We hope that hospitals that have collaborated with BPJS will continue to be able to serve patients whose membership has been suspended,” said Saifullah during a visit to a cataract surgery assistance programme at Bhakti Husada Hospital, North Cikarang, Bekasi Regency, Wednesday (25/2/2026).

“Regarding who will pay, we can discuss it. For example, through Kitabisa.com. We will also collaborate with local governments,” he said.

He added that if local governments do not have a budget in the current year, payments can be planned through the following year’s regional budget (APBD).

“If the hospital is also hesitant to act because there is no guarantee, then we will guarantee it. But I cannot pay this year, because the APBD must be planned a year in advance,” he said.

Saifullah admitted that the socialisation of the BPJS Kesehatan PBI JKN membership suspension has not been optimal.

“We will improve the mechanism. We appreciate that suggestion (socialisation),” he said.

Participants will be given time to reactivate their membership or submit objections.

“If, after two months, there is no reactivation or no objection, then we will suspend it in the following month,” he said.

Saifullah assured that the suspension of millions of BPJS PBI JKN participants is not a reduction in the allocation of assistance.

“But it is being reallocated from recipients who do not meet the criteria to those who meet the criteria and are more in need,” he said.

For information, the Ministry of Social Affairs has suspended 7,397,277 PBI JKN participants as part of the data adjustment into the National Socio-Economic Data (DTSEN).
