Semarang - The Workers’ Social Security Organising Agency (BPJS Ketenagakerjaan) has handed over compensation to the heirs of six students from Universitas Islam Negeri (UIN) Walisongo Semarang who died after being swept away in a river during their community service programme (KKN). The handover of the Work Accident Insurance (JKK) compensation was conducted symbolically, represented by the heirs of two students, at the UIN Walisongo Rectorate in Semarang on Wednesday. The six students were Riska Amelia from Pemalang Regency, Nabila Yulian Dessi Pramesti from Bojonegoro Regency, Syifa Nadilah from Pemalang, Muhammad Jibril Asyarafi from Jepara Regency, Bima Pranawira from Gresik Regency, and Muhammad Labib Rizqi from Pekalongan City. The six students, who were participating in the KKN programme, died after being caught in the current of the Jolinggo River in Getas Village, Kendal Regency, on Tuesday (4/11/2025). The heirs of the six students each received JKK compensation of Rp70 million. The Head of the BPJS Ketenagakerjaan Semarang Pemuda Branch, Mohamad Irfan, stated that UIN Walisongo Semarang is one of the campuses that has provided protection to students in student activities. “Since around 2022, all students conducting KKN activities and beyond have been given protection under the employment social security programme,” he said. “Because death and calamity can happen unexpectedly. But at least, when it happens to us, there is a safety net,” he added. The Rector of UIN Walisongo Semarang, Prof Musahadi, reaffirmed the campus’s commitment to protecting its academic community, including students, in carrying out programmes. “Especially for programmes with risks, we carry out mitigation and strive to establish cooperation, one of which is with BPJS Ketenagakerjaan,” he said. The number of students at UIN Walisongo Semarang currently stands at 22,000, and the protection is provided not only during KKN but also during internships and field experience practices (PPL). “We indeed see this as a beneficial measure, and we want our students to be truly protected,” he said. Meanwhile, Nurhaniah, the heir of Muhammad Labib Rizqi, expressed thanks to BPJS Ketenagakerjaan and UIN Walisongo Semarang for the attention and compensation provided.
