Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia - The President Director of BPJS Ketenagakerjaan, Saiful Hidayat, has revealed that West Java is the region receiving the most attention regarding the potential for layoffs (PHK), particularly in industries dependent on oil- and plastic-based raw materials. “Certainly in the West Java region, the raw materials depend on oil and plastic, which will undoubtedly be impacted by the current economic conditions and wars,” Saiful stated when met at the Ministry of Cooperatives (Kemenkop) office in Jakarta on Monday (11/5/2026). This aligns with data from the Single Data of the Ministry of Manpower (Kemnaker). From January to April 2026, the number of workers laid off reached 15,425 people. West Java is the province with the highest layoff figures, namely 3,339 workers or about 21.65% of the national total. Following West Java, the largest number of layoffs was recorded in South Kalimantan with 1,581 workers, Banten with 1,536 workers, East Java with 1,367 workers, and East Kalimantan with 1,237 workers. Saiful said that BPJS Ketenagakerjaan is now beginning to map companies that have the potential to carry out layoffs so that the process of disbursing workers’ rights can be carried out more quickly if a wave of layoffs truly occurs. “We are organising and ensuring which companies have the potential for layoffs, and we have prepared the data. We will actively reach out to the employers to ensure that if layoffs do occur, the workers’ rights can be guaranteed to be received promptly. Including, if needed, we will open counters at the locations of companies experiencing layoffs,” he said. He emphasised that the current task of BPJS Ketenagakerjaan is to ensure that workers affected by layoffs still receive services and their rights quickly. “Our task is to ensure that workers impacted by layoffs are served promptly and receive their rights,” he stated. Nevertheless, Saiful admitted that BPJS Ketenagakerjaan does not have detailed data on the specific companies or sectors that will carry out layoffs. However, they assure proactive action to serve affected workers. “Where and what they are, we do not have the data. But certainly, we will act proactively and be ready to immediately provide rights to the workers who will be impacted by layoffs,” he concluded.
