BPJS Ketenagakerjaan Ensures Rights of Workers Affected by Layoffs
Jakarta (ANTARA) - BPJS Ketenagakerjaan has assured that workers affected by termination of employment (PHK) will continue to receive their entitlements, including benefits under the Job Loss Guarantee (JKP) programme.
The President Director of BPJS Ketenagakerjaan, Saiful Hidayat, stated that in addition to ensuring the disbursement of JKP for workers who have already been laid off, the agency is also mapping companies that are potentially at risk of conducting PHK to accelerate services for affected workers.
“We are organising and ensuring which companies are potentially going to conduct PHK, and we have prepared the data,” Saiful said when met at the Ministry of Cooperatives office in Jakarta on Monday.
He added that BPJS Ketenagakerjaan will actively reach out to companies to ensure that workers’ rights can be processed immediately if PHK occurs.
“We will actively contact employers to ensure that if PHK does happen, workers’ rights can be received by them as soon as possible,” he said.
In addition, BPJS Ketenagakerjaan is preparing direct services at the locations of companies experiencing PHK if needed.
According to him, the primary duty of BPJS Ketenagakerjaan is to ensure that workers affected by PHK receive services and their rights promptly.
Based on data from the Ministry of Manpower (Kemnaker) as of 5 May 2026, there were 15,425 workers who experienced PHK during the period from January to April 2026 and are registered as JKP programme participants.
The workers laid off during that period mostly came from West Java Province, accounting for around 21.65 percent or 3,339 people out of the total reported workers.
Workers who have been laid off can report their PHK status and submit claims through the JKP application at the latest six months after the PHK date.
Regarding the affected sectors, Saiful mentioned that industries reliant on oil and plastic raw materials are potentially under pressure due to the current global economic conditions and ongoing wars.
Nevertheless, he said that BPJS Ketenagakerjaan does not have specific detailed data regarding the companies or sectors experiencing PHK.
