BPJPH mandates halal certification for logistics sector this year
Halal is not merely an obligation but also an instrument for protecting our MSMEs from the influx of imported products.
Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Halal Product Assurance Organising Body (BPJPH) mandates the logistics sector to implement halal certification comprehensively by 2026.
Head of BPJPH Ahmad Haikal Hasan stated in Jakarta on Monday that this is because the concept of halal is not limited to food and beverage products but encompasses the entire process chain, including distribution and logistics.
“Halal in the logistics sector is an important part of halal product assurance. This is not just about the final product but also how storage, packaging, and distribution are carried out in accordance with halal principles,” said Haikal.
Furthermore, he emphasised that halal can serve as a strategic barrier to entry to protect domestic micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) from the entry of foreign products that do not meet halal standards.
In addition, he stressed that the logistics sector no longer has room to delay the implementation of halal certification.
This, he continued, aligns with national policy where halal certification obligations will apply comprehensively by 2026.
“For the logistics industry, there is no more negotiation. 2026 becomes the mandatory point for business actors to obtain halal certification,” he said.
“Products such as halal and non-halal meat must be separated in their storage. This becomes a standard that must be met by all logistics business actors,” said Haikal.
“BPJPH hopes for stronger synergy between the government and logistics industry players in building an integrated and globally competitive national halal ecosystem,” he added.
