Jakarta — The Halal Product Assurance Organising Body (BPJPH) is collaborating with the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) to strengthen the integrity of halal services through the ‘Dashboard Sistem Aplikasi Jaga Sertifikasi Halal’. In a Jakarta briefing on Thursday, BPJPH Chief Ahmad Haikal Hasan said the step reinforces the synergy of anti-corruption prevention within the administration of halal certification services, and serves as a preventive measure to mitigate corruption risks in halal certification services.

‘The anti-corruption is not merely an administrative agenda; it is intrinsically embedded in the characteristic and mandate of BPJPH,’ Haikal said.

BPJPH, he continued, bears a mandate that touches directly the basic needs of the public — what people eat, drink, and use daily.

Therefore integrity is not only a governance requirement but also part of moral values, social norms, and ethical responsibility inherent in the administration of halal product assurance.

‘BPJPH is different from other agencies, because we deal with what the public consumes across all segments, from primary school children to the elderly. When public trust is damaged, the impact is systemic,’ he said.

Moreover, Haikal emphasised that the halal certification mandate is not merely administrative or procedural, but concerns the legal legitimacy as set out in Law Number 33 of 2014 on Halal Product Assurance.

If the integrity of the administering body is compromised, not only the institution’s reputation is affected, but also the dignity of halal certification itself. When public trust collapses, the effectiveness of regulation can be eroded and the institution’s existence may be at stake.

‘There must be no illicit levies, whether knowingly or unknowingly. We have decided on zero tolerance for corruption in any form. This system must be safeguarded together,’ he said.

Meanwhile, KPK Deputy for Prevention and Monitoring Aminudin hopes this dashboard will strengthen transparency of service processes, facilitate monitoring, and open space for oversight participation by stakeholders.

He stressed that the quality of public services will directly influence public perception and evaluation. Services that are fast, transparent, and free of bribes will positively affect public trust.

Aminudin also reminded that slow bureaucracy can hinder the business world that is required to move agilely.

‘Time is money. If bureaucracy is not adaptive, the affected business players,’ he said.
