Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Badan Pengatur Hilir Minyak dan Gas Bumi (BPH Migas) states that residents of Tarakan City, North Kalimantan, can celebrate Lebaran 2026 comfortably, supported by a reliable piped natural gas (jargas) network for cooking purposes.

BPH Migas Head Wahyudi Anas, in his statement in Jakarta on Saturday, said that 34,145 household connections (SR) in Tarakan City now benefit from piped natural gas services.

“We want to see directly that the energy supply and distribution in Tarakan and surrounding areas are safe and free from disruptions,” he said during his inspection of jargas services for household consumers and small customers in Tarakan City, North Kalimantan, on Friday (27/3/2026).

Tarakan City, he continued, serves as a pilot area for other regions in implementing low-emission energy use.

The gas supply comes from PT Medco E&P Tarakan at 0.3 billion British thermal units per day (BBTUD) and Pertamina EP Bunyu also at 0.3 BBTUD.

The gas allocation for the jargas programme in Tarakan City has been optimally absorbed.

“Tarakan is special, close to natural gas sources. In line with the President’s Astacita of the Republic of Indonesia, which is national energy independence, especially in Tarakan with natural gas supply from Medco E&P Tarakan and Pertamina EP Bunyu for full utilisation of jargas,” he added.

Wahyudi continued that the use of jargas will reduce the burden of subsidies for 3-kilogram (kg) LPG gas, most of whose raw materials come from imports.

“The government hopes that energy produced in Tarakan can be optimally utilised fully by the community. Of course, this is also the hard work of the local government, Pertamina, and PT PGN, so that the principle of benefit to the community can provide a more competitive price (for jargas) and contribute to driving the community’s economy,” he said.

The government, Wahyudi explained, ensures that areas in the outermost and border points can enjoy energy at affordable prices.

Tarakan can soon implement 100 per cent jargas usage for the community.

One household consumer in Karangrejo Village, West Tarakan Subdistrict, Sabiran (32), acknowledged the advantages of jargas that flows continuously every time at a cheaper price.

“The presence of jargas in Tarakan is very helpful in our daily lives, especially during Ramadan and Eid al-Fitr. When cooking, there’s no need to worry about running out of gas because the gas flows 24 hours. We thank the government for helping and smoothing the gas flow,” said the jargas user since 2010.

Meanwhile, small customer Elisabeth, owner of Warung Teras Tarakan, stated that she has not experienced any disruptions in using jargas services so far.

General Manager of PGN Sales Operation Region (SOR) III Hedi Hedianto said PGN is committed to continuing to distribute jargas to the Tarakan community.

“We continue to socialise to the community on operating jargas stoves to keep them safe, and we also have a 24-hour emergency response team if there are any issues from customers,” he said.

Meanwhile, Assistant for Economy and Development Administration of Tarakan City Ajat Jatnika conveyed that the Tarakan community has directly felt the savings benefits of jargas usage.

During his visit, Wahyudi also stopped by Medco E&P Tarakan to ensure that upstream natural gas supply flows safely to the community.

“We give appreciation to Medco for their efforts in ensuring reliable supply from continuous gas production to jargas users in Tarakan,” he said.

The event was also attended by BPH Migas Committee Member Harya Adityawarman, Executive General Manager of Pertamina Patra Niaga Kalimantan Region Isfahani, and Senior Manager of Field Relations and Security Onshore Medco E&P Tarakan Herman Fauzi.
