BPBD Sukabumi District Prepares Tents for Land Movement Disaster Survivors
The Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) of Sukabumi District, West Java, has prepared family tents for survivors of a land movement disaster in Kampung Cijambe RT 05/07, Bantargadung District. The tents are being stationed at the village office.
Daeng Sutisna, Manager of the Disaster Control and Operations Centre (Pusdalops) of Sukabumi District BPBD, stated that the land movement affected 10 households. Currently, most survivors have evacuated to relatives’ homes, whilst others are renting or leasing accommodation.
“As of Saturday (28 February), family tents have been installed for those affected by the land movement. Only six have been set up so far, with the remaining four units kept on standby at the village office,” he said on Sunday (1 March).
The tents have been deployed to accommodate the disaster survivors, as their homes are no longer habitable.
“Hopefully this can assist the affected community. They can use them temporarily,” he concluded.
The land movement in the area began on Monday (22 February). A total of 10 residential buildings were affected.
The 10 buildings are inhabited by 10 households totalling 37 residents. The damage to the buildings is primarily characterised by cracks in walls and floors.
The land movement was triggered by heavy rainfall over the preceding days. The moderate to high rainfall intensity destabilised the soil contours.
