Local disaster agency BPBD of Ciamis Regency, West Java, said an assessment found 114 homes damaged by extreme weather across seven sub-districts. The assessment results will guide repair efforts to enable residents to return to safe and habitable homes. ‘The next steps will be coordinated with the relevant agencies,’ said Ani Supiani, Head of the BPBD Implementation at Ciamis, on Sunday. She added that BPBD Ciamis deployed personnel to respond to and document the impacts of the heavy rain and strong winds that occurred on Wednesday (4/3). The field assessment recorded 112 houses with minor damage, one house with moderate damage, and one with severe damage. In addition to housing, 14 public facilities such as school buildings, places of worship, and businesses were damaged by the extreme weather. ‘The affected areas are in seven sub-districts and 23 villages,’ she noted. The damaged houses were caused by fallen trees, with some also hit by strong winds and heavy rain. BPBD Ciamis and other agencies have begun mitigation measures such as cutting fallen trees; repairs to the damaged houses have not yet started. ‘The fallen trees have been addressed; the housing damage has not yet been repaired,’ she said. She added that BPBD Ciamis is currently distributing urgent needs such as staple foods to affected residents. The BPBD team remains on standby and urges the public to stay alert to hydrometeorological disaster risks. ‘We remain in hydrometeorological disaster standby status until April 2026,’ she said. Ground movement in Bantargadung District occurred in Bantargadung and Bojonggaling villages. This coincided with the increased rainfall since Wednesday (4/3). Residents are advised to keep monitoring official weather information to enable self-mitigation.
