BPBD: 285 Residents of Parigi Moutong Affected by Earthquake, Dozens of Homes and Public Facilities Damaged
The Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) has recorded that 285 residents, or 91 families, in Parigi Moutong Regency, Central Sulawesi, were affected by the earthquake that shook the region several days ago. “285 people were affected by the disaster, spread across 19 villages in seven sub-districts,” said Acting Head of Parigi Moutong BPBD Moh Rivai when contacted from Palu on Sunday (21/6). According to Rivai, the data was obtained through a field assessment process carried out by the BPBD team. Once the data collection is complete and verified, the report will be submitted to the Central Sulawesi Provincial BPBD as a basis for further handling. The magnitude 7.6 earthquake that occurred on Tuesday (16/6) caused damage to various infrastructure in Parigi Moutong Regency. Based on BPBD data, 87 houses suffered damage, consisting of 83 units with minor damage, three units with moderate damage, and one unit with severe damage. In addition to residents’ homes, a number of public facilities were also affected. Two government offices were recorded as damaged, along with one mosque, one church, and one school each. Two temples were also reported to be affected by the earthquake. “Five health facilities also suffered damage, three buildings with minor damage and two other buildings with moderate damage,” he said. During the emergency response period running from 17 to 23 June 2026, the Parigi Moutong Regency Government has undertaken various efforts to accelerate handling, including damage assessments and the distribution of aid to affected residents. “We have distributed all aid to the earthquake victims, totalling 100 packages, 25 of which came from BPBD and 75 from the Social Service. The aid was provided to meet the basic needs of the community,” he stated. The aid distributed includes food logistics and other urgent necessities to help the community meet their daily needs after the disaster. Rivai added that during the emergency response period, the local government did not set up a special health post. Instead, health services for affected residents were optimised through community health centres located around the earthquake-affected areas. Meanwhile, the Sigi Regency BPBD reported a quite significant impact from the earthquake in its territory. As of Saturday (20/6), the number of damaged houses reached 2,335 units. Of these, 1,955 units suffered minor damage, 226 units moderate damage, and 154 units severe damage. The number of victims and affected residents in Sigi Regency was recorded at 8,586 people or 2,775 families. The breakdown includes 17 people with serious injuries, 108 people with minor injuries, and three residents reported dead as a result of the disaster.
