BP3MI Riau monitors condition of woman victim of employment fraud in Cambodia
Pekanbaru – The Indonesian Migrant Worker Protection and Service Center (BP3MI) Riau is monitoring the condition of a woman from Siak Regency, Susi Yanti Br Sinaga (22), who has been reported as a victim of employment fraud in Cambodia. Head of BP3MI Riau, Fanny Wahyu Kurniawan, said they are monitoring Susi’s condition through the Indonesian Embassy (KBRI) in Cambodia. She is currently receiving intensive care in the ICU at Khmer-Soviet Friendship Hospital, Phnom Penh. ‘We are continuing to coordinate with the KBRI Phnom Penh to ensure Susi Yanti’s condition,’ Fanny said in Pekanbaru on Friday. Susi is currently accompanied by her boyfriend Bram Silitonga during ICU treatment. The KBRI in Phnom Penh has also visited and met the victim at the hospital. ‘The KBRI advised the family to continue monitoring Susi’s condition through Bram, who is at the location,’ he added. Based on information they obtained, Susi was initially promised work in Malaysia, but was taken to Cambodia and left with only her passport, making the arrangement illegal. Fanny emphasised that the government will not remain silent in addressing non-procedural migrant workers issues and urged the public not to be easily enticed by overseas job offers without going through official channels. Meanwhile, the Directorate of General Criminal Investigation of the Riau Police is investigating alleged Human Trafficking (TPPO) against the victim. Director of General Criminal Investigation of the Riau Police, Kombes Pol Hasyim Risahondua, said they had gathered information from the victim’s family in Desa Rawang Kao, Kecamatan Lubuk Dalam, Siak Regency. ‘In response to this situation, we are examining whether this case is purely TPPO or part of an international scam syndicate,’ he said.
