BP BUMN Pushes for Electrification on Three Strategic KAI Routes
Jakarta - The Head of BP BUMN, Dony Oskaria, is pushing for the acceleration of national transport sector electrification to realise a more efficient, environmentally friendly, and sustainable mobility system, while strengthening connectivity and the quality of public services. “We hope that under President Prabowo’s leadership, this transformation in mass transportation will occur, with Kereta Api Indonesia at the forefront,” Dony stated in an official remark received in Jakarta on Monday. Dony, who is also the COO of Danantara, conducted a working visit to Bandung on Monday, accompanied by BP BUMN executives and PT Danantara Asset Management (DAM), with the first agenda being a visit to PT Kereta Api Indonesia (Persero). During the visit, discussions covered the electrification programme for trains to be operated on three strategic routes: Jakarta-Cikampek, Jakarta-Cigombong, and Jakarta-Rangkasbitung. This programme is expected to improve transport efficiency, reduce emissions, strengthen inter-regional connectivity, and promote the formation of new economic growth centres in various areas. On that occasion, the Head of BP BUMN reaffirmed the government’s full commitment to promoting and supporting national mass transport transformation efforts. “Whatever is needed, please convey it to the Director, we will ensure that support from Danantara and BP BUMN is 100 percent behind all transformations to be carried out by Kereta Api Indonesia,” Dony said. At the same time, discussions also addressed the optimisation of facilities and infrastructure capacity, particularly in the Jabodetabek region, plans for locomotive unit replacement, as well as the rejuvenation and modernisation of facilities and technology. Strengthening service innovations and organising subsidiaries, including the development of freight transport through KAI Logistik and collaboration with INKA, are also part of efforts to boost efficiency and competitiveness in the national railway sector. In the meeting, BP BUMN emphasised the importance of BUMN transformation that is not only structural but also delivers real impacts for society. Such transformation must be carried out with good governance, prioritising transparency, and upholding accountability principles in every business process. KAI’s directors welcomed the directives with a strong commitment to continue improving and making updates across various lines. KAI affirmed its readiness to drive the development of a more modern, safe, and reliable transport system to enhance service quality for the public. This working visit also serves as a momentum to ensure that all transformation processes at KAI run consistently with principles of good, transparent, and accountable governance. This is deemed crucial to maintain the company’s performance sustainability as well as alignment with national policies, particularly in providing the best services for the public. BP BUMN together with Danantara continues to encourage KAI to transform into a modern, competitive, and adaptive transport company in line with the times. These efforts are expected to support public mobility while providing real contributions to national economic growth and supporting the government’s targets towards zero emissions.
