BP Batam (Batam Authority) has engaged micro, small, and medium enterprises (SMEs) and local communities in promoting the New Nagoya Priority Development and Arrangement Area (WPP) through community activities at Nagoya Citiwalk, Batam, on Sunday 1 March 2026. The Community Gathering event was attended by BP Batam Head Amsakar Achmad, Deputy Head Li Claudia Chandra, Nagoya Citiwalk Owner Suhendro Gautama, SME operators, and more than 30 running and cycling communities in Batam.

The event featured a 3-kilometre fun walk and a 7-kilometre leisurely cycling ride, followed by communal fast-breaking in conjunction with Ramadan. BP Batam described the activity as part of socialisation efforts for the New Nagoya region development, which is projected to become one of the economic growth centres and urban activity hubs in Batam.

BP Batam Head Amsakar Achmad stated that arrangement of the New Nagoya area is a priority for enhancing Batam’s competitiveness as an investment destination and regional hub. “Through WPP New Nagoya, we affirm our commitment to making this area a new engine for Batam’s economic growth. With collaboration from all stakeholders, WPP New Nagoya is expected to develop as an orderly, modern, and competitive area, whilst also serving as a comfortable and productive public space for communities,” Achmad stated on Monday 2 March 2026.

The WPP New Nagoya programme, initiated by the Infrastructure Deputy Office, focuses on three main pillars: improving connectivity and basic infrastructure including drainage system integration and pedestrian pathway management that is safe and tourist-friendly; revitalising commercial areas and strengthening SMEs to enliven public spaces through cultural and creative economic activities.

Deputy BP Batam Head Li Claudia Chandra emphasised that community involvement is essential in creating a vibrant and sustainable area. She noted that the success of area arrangement is determined not only by physical development but also by public participation in utilising public spaces.

“Active community participation will strengthen New Nagoya’s identity as an inclusive centre for economic and social activity. When communities engage in positive activities, this area becomes not only a business centre but also a space for interaction, creativity, and collaboration that provides tangible benefits for local economic growth and strengthens community bonds,” Chandra stated.

Support for the area’s development was also expressed by Dr Suryatmoko from the Omahan Runners community. He assessed that providing pedestrian and cyclist-friendly infrastructure can promote healthy living in urban areas.

“WPP New Nagoya is not merely about area arrangement, but about how urban space can promote healthy lifestyles. With pedestrian and cyclist-friendly infrastructure, this area provides space for communities to actively engage, interact, and build togetherness. Well-organised environments will produce healthier and more productive communities,” he said.
