Boundary Wall Collapses onto SMPN 182 South Jakarta, Homeowner Agrees to Pay Compensation
Jakarta — Police have confirmed there were no casualties in the wall collapse incident at SMPN 182 Kalibata, Pancoran, South Jakarta. Police said the homeowner whose wall collapsed has agreed to pay compensation for the damage to the school.
“There is damage to school building facilities, but the wall owner has taken responsibility to restore them to their original condition,” said Pancoran Police Chief Kompol Mansur when contacted on Monday (16/2/2026).
The wall collapsed on Sunday (15/2) at approximately 11.30 local time. Police said the homeowner whose wall collapsed had already met and communicated with the school regarding compensation for damage to school facilities.
“Communication has been established with the school, taking responsibility until the school building is restored to its original condition,” he said.
Mansur said the remaining debris from the collapsed wall also affected a water channel. He said the homeowner has also agreed to remove the wall debris to prevent it from blocking the waterway.
“The wall owner is willing to remove the remnants of the wall, the stones and remaining debris, and move them aside. It also hit a river channel, so it needs to be cleared to prevent blockages,” he said.
Furthermore, Mansur said his office would continue investigating the cause of the wall’s collapse. He explained that the investigation was being conducted to prevent a recurrence.
“We are investigating what caused this wall to collapse from end to end — whether there were no prior warning signs, and if there were, why supports or repairs were not put in place. That is the direction of our investigation,” he said.
