Borobudur holds interfaith event

MAGELANG, Central Java: Six musical groups from different religious backgrounds are scheduled to take part in an interfaith dialog in the form of clinics, discussions and collaborative performances at Borobudur Temple from Jan. 9 to Jan. 15.

The theme of the event will be Nurani dalam Harmoni (Conscience in Harmony).

The six groups taking part in the event are Mantra Buddha, Kesenian Mantra Tengger, Cakradonya, Schola Iacartensis, Yang Thing Makin Semarang and Lingkung Seni Purwa Wirahma.

They are expected to play spiritual music according to their respective religious backgrounds.

Jointly organized by Yayasan Titian Budaya, UNESCO's Jakarta regional office and the Office of the State Minister for Culture and Tourism, the event is aimed at encouraging an interfaith dialog in the community as a way in dealing with differences.

Apart from a collaborative performance to take place in front of the temple on Jan. 15, each of the groups also will give solo performances or smaller collaborative performances.

Other activities at the event will include discussions and clinics, which will take place at the Pondok Tingal Hotel, about a kilometer away from the temple. -- JP
