Border Security Task Force Thwarts Smuggling of 1,664 Ecstasy Pills at the Border
Pontianak (ANTARA) - The Indonesia-Malaysia Border Security Task Force (Satgas Pamtas) in the operational command area of Korem 121/Alambhana Wanawwai (Abw) has successfully thwarted an attempt to smuggle 1,664 ecstasy pills at the West Kalimantan border.
The interception took place on Tuesday night (21/4), and today the suspects and evidence were handed over to the relevant authorities,” said Commander of Korem 121/Abw, Brigadier General TNI (Ret.) Purnomosidi, during a press conference in Pontianak on Thursday.
He stated that this success is part of efforts to strengthen border security in line with directives from Pangdam XII/Tanjungpura.
He explained that the case began when personnel from Pos Siding of Yonarhanud 1/PBC/1 Kostrad conducted a routine patrol in Siding Village, Bengkayang Regency, around 21:36 WIB.
During the patrol, officers stopped a white Toyota Avanza vehicle with licence plate KB 1511 KC passing through the border area. Upon inspection, officers discovered narcotic evidence inside the vehicle.
“From the inspection, 1,664 ecstasy pills were found,” he said.
The discovery was then confirmed through a joint inspection with the Jagoi Babang Customs Office, which stated that the evidence positively contained ecstasy-type narcotics.
Two suspected perpetrators were also secured in the operation. Both are Indonesian citizens with initials Y and ES, residing in Bengkayang Regency and North Pontianak.
Purnomosidi added that all evidence and suspected perpetrators will subsequently be processed in accordance with applicable legal provisions by the relevant agencies.
“For this success, Pangdam XII/Tanjungpura has expressed appreciation to the soldiers on the ground for their dedication and vigilance in protecting the border area from various threats, including narcotics circulation,” he said.
