Amid accelerated physical reconstruction efforts, the government is ensuring the sustainability of residents’ livelihoods through extensive financial assistance. This measure guarantees that the recovery process not only addresses infrastructure but also food security and the purchasing power of communities paralysed by the disaster.

This assistance is essential given the vast scale of the affected population. In the initial post-disaster census at the end of 2025, 2,108,582 people were recorded as needing evacuation from their homes. They were forced to relocate to evacuation tents as their residences were no longer habitable.

Data as of 17 February 2026 indicates a massive level of housing damage, affecting 302,222 units. The breakdown includes 58,587 units severely damaged, 66,834 moderately damaged, and 176,801 lightly damaged.

Alongside recovery efforts through the construction of temporary housing (Huntara), permanent housing (Huntap), and other infrastructure repairs, the Task Force for Accelerating Rehabilitation and Reconstruction (Satgas PRR) is distributing various aids to affected residents.

The assistance comprises Disaster Social Assistance, Social Economic Stimulus Assistance (BSSE), Housing Contents Assistance (BIH), and Livelihood Guarantee (Jadup). There is also Dana Tunggu Hunian (DTH) aid, stimulus for repairing lightly and moderately damaged houses, and massive logistical support for residents sheltering in tents or Huntara.

According to the Satgas PRR report as of 26 March 2026, the distribution of Dana Tunggu Hunian (DTH) has reached 100 percent across all affected areas. A total of 14,021 beneficiaries in Aceh, North Sumatra, and West Sumatra have received transfers to their respective accounts. This step is crucial for maintaining their economic resilience during the transition to permanent housing.

Parallel to DTH, stimulus funds for repairing lightly and moderately damaged houses continue to be disbursed. In Aceh Province, the allocation amounts to Rp 473.25 billion to finance renovations of more than 22,000 housing units. Meanwhile, for North Sumatra and West Sumatra, the total budgets disbursed are Rp 40.56 billion and Rp 23.41 billion, respectively.

This support is also complemented by massive direct logistical distribution to Huntara sites to ensure the comfort of their occupants. In Aceh alone, 25,807 mattresses, 8,104 stoves, and 7,184 fans have been distributed. Additionally, thousands of basic necessities packages, bedding equipment such as mattresses and plastic carpets, and cooking utensils continue to be supplied to ensure residents can promptly resume decent living in Huntara.

Specifically for Jadup, Satgas PRR records a significant surge in distribution over the past month. If on 14 February it only covered four districts/cities, the latest report as of 26 March shows the aid has reached 37 districts/cities in the three provinces. Of the total planned allocation for 62,475 people, 54,569 individuals have received their entitlements, with a total disbursed amount of Rp 269.37 billion.

Aceh Province recorded the highest realisation, with aid to 42,540 people worth Rp 200.57 billion. In North Sumatra, the assistance has reached 10,235 people, and in West Sumatra, 1,794 people.

This acceleration in Aceh is vital for maintaining residents’ purchasing power, especially in areas with the most severe damage such as Pidie Jaya and Central Aceh. This step aligns with directives from Tito Karnavian that Satgas PRR is now redirecting all resources to penetrate points that are not yet fully recovered. “Areas still requiring special attention number 11 regions or about 21 percent of the total affected areas,” Tito emphasised.
