Bondowoso seeks assistance from East Java Provincial Government to tackle clean-water crisis
Bondowoso Regency government has asked for assistance to handle a clean-water crisis from the East Java Provincial Government because the budget for fuel for tanker trucks is only enough for around 40 deliveries in the affected drought areas. The Bondowoso BPBD notes that this dry season has left 7,136 people affected by the shortage of clean water. ‘We have submitted a request for assistance in delivering clean water to the East Java provincial government, because our budget is only enough for 40 deliveries or about a month,’ said Kristianto Putro Prasojo, the acting head of BPBD Bondowoso, in Bondowoso on Tuesday. He explained that the budget for delivering clean water to drought-hit villages is limited as the price of non-subsidised diesel has risen significantly. In addition to requesting assistance from the East Java BPBD, Kristianto added that BPBD Bondowoso is also partnering with the Indonesian Red Cross (PMI), PDAM and Baznas set local. ‘As the price of non-subsidised diesel increases, the budget for delivering clean water to affected villages is only enough for 40 deliveries,’ he said. The local BPBD has begun distributing clean water to drought-affected villages since last week using two tanker trucks, each with a capacity of 5,000 litres. The 20 dusun affected by drought include Dusun Jatian, Desa Sumberanyar; Dusun Karang Kotong, Desa Sumbersari (Maesan District); Dusun Paterongan, Desa Walidono (Prajekan District); Dusun Geddingan, Desa Blimbing; Dusun Durin and Geddingan, Desa Karanganyar (Klabang District). Then Dusun Pelinggian, Desa Wringin (Wringin District); Dusun Sumber Biru, Desa Klabang; Dusun Krajan and Jurang Gundah, Desa Purnama (Tegal Ampel District); Dusun Banteng Lor, Sumber Waru, Banteng Duk Beto, Desa Klekean; Dusun Seccang, Belengguen, Cemper Timur, Desa Lumutan (Botolinggo District).
