Bogor Police Chief and Colleagues Pool Resources to Endow 2,000 Qur'ans for the Community
There was a striking scene at Masjid Baitul Faizin, Cibinong, Bogor Regency, on Saturday evening, 7 March 2026. During the solemn recitation of salawat and the Tablig Akbar Nuzulul Quran, the Bogor Police Resort (Polres Bogor) handed over a wakaf—an endowment—of 2,000 Qur’ans for the community.
The thousands of Qur’ans did not originate from the department’s budget; they were the result of contributions from the personal funds of Bogor Police personnel.
Bogor Police Chief AKBP Wikha Ardilestanto explained that the initiative began on the first day of Ramadan 1447 AH. He urged all ranks, from the Polres to the Polsek, to undertake tangible actions that touched the spiritual life of the community.
“Alhamdulillah, tonight we from the Bogor Police force are able to hand over 2,000 Qur’ans, the wakaf from all members. This is a tangible expression of our love for the Qur’an and our concern for the people in the holy month of Ramadan,” Wikha told reporters at the scene.
Wikha said the response from members was extraordinary. Without coercion, personnel set aside portions of their livelihoods to realise the provision of suitable Qur’anic copies. Collectively, 2,000 copies had been gathered and were ready to be distributed to the far reaches of Bogor.
“Since the start of Ramadan, I instructed tangible action through Qur’an waqf. The response from members has been outstanding. This is the result of pure donations and alms from the personal pockets of the personnel,” he said.
To ensure the distribution reached the right recipients, the Bogor Police partnered with the Indonesian Mosque Council (Dewan Masjid Indonesia - DMI) of Bogor Regency. In due course, DMI will map out mosques or pesantren in remote areas that are in dire need of Qur’anic copies for taḏarus activities.
“They (DMI) are more aware of which points, be it mosques in the remote areas or pesantren, are currently in most urgent need of Qur’anic copies,” he added.
Through this initiative, Wikha hopes the Police will be recognised not only as guardians of physical security on streets or in settlements but also as contributors to the community’s spiritual and moral development.
“Ramadan is the best moment for sharing. With this wakaf, we want to embed the value that Polri exists not only to safeguard physical security but also to support the spiritual development of the people,” he said.
“May this 2,000 Qur’ans wakaf also become ongoing charitable deeds whose rewards flow indefinitely. More than that, the initiative is part of the cultural development of personnel. Personnel with strong faith and piety, inshallah, will be more trustworthy in performing their duties and less likely to commit violations,” he added.
Wikha hopes that the synergy between the government, religious leaders, and Bogor’s community can continue to strengthen so that public order and safety can be maintained.
“Our hope is that synergy between ulama, umara, and the people of Bogor Regency will continue to grow, creating a calm and peaceful kamtibmas,” he concluded.
The handover ceremony was lively yet solemn. The event also featured several religious leaders such as Alhabib Ghasim bin Ja’far Assegaf, Alhabib Abdallah bin Ja’far Assegaf, Ustaz Aa Hilman Fauzi, and Ustaz Munawir Ngacir.
