Bogor opposes influx of Jakarta buses

BOGOR (JP): A Bogor Land Transportation Agency official expressed concern yesterday over the presence of about 200 intercity buses which have Jakarta license plates but are based in Bogor.

Endang Tabroni, head of the agency, said the buses caused traffic jams in Bogor but did not contribute financially to the city because they paid their taxes in Jakarta.

"We have verbally warned the companies which operate buses with these license plates. A warning letter has also been sent to them but there has been no response."

Endang said that buses based in Bogor should be registered in the city in line with Ministry of Transportation decree No. 68/1994.

He said the buses with problematic license plates usually plied routes between Bogor and Jakarta and other cities in West, Central and East Java.

If the buses were registered in Bogor it would increase the city's income, he said. (24/jun)
