Bogor City Government Proposes Building Waste-to-Energy Plant in Kayumanis Area to Address Waste
This presents a significant opportunity to resolve waste problems collectively, not only in Bogor City but also in the Greater Bogor area and agglomeration, ensuring that the benefits are truly felt by the community. Bogor City (ANTARA) - The Bogor City Government (Pemkot) in West Java is promoting regional Waste-to-Electricity (PSEL) processing as a sustainable solution to address cross-regional waste issues. Bogor Mayor Dedie A Rachim stated in Bogor on Saturday that this step aligns with the central government’s policy to accelerate PSEL development amid the waste emergency facing several regions. Bogor City is one of the areas encouraged to develop PSEL as an alternative energy source based on waste, through a regional cooperation approach with surrounding areas. Dedie Rachim expressed Bogor City’s readiness to support the programme while pushing for an integrated resolution to waste problems in the Greater Bogor area up to the Bandung Raya agglomeration. The Bogor City Government proposes building a PSEL facility in the Kayumanis area, planned to process around 1,000 tonnes of waste per day. From this processing, the PSEL facility is projected to generate 10 to 15 megawatts of electricity as an alternative energy source. Through PSEL development, waste management is expected not only to focus on reducing waste generation but also to add value in the form of environmentally friendly renewable energy. Environment Minister Hanif Faisol Nurofiq previously stated that waste generation in the Jabodetabek area reaches about 15,000 tonnes per day, while Bandung Raya is around 5,000 tonnes per day. In response, West Java Governor Dedi Mulyadi welcomed the opportunity provided through Presidential Regulation Number 109 of 2025 on accelerating PSEL development. According to him, the policy opens up space for collaboration between the central government and local governments to deliver concrete solutions to waste problems.
