Bogor City (ANTARA) - The Bogor City Council (DPRD) in West Java has reaffirmed its commitment to overseeing the construction of the Garuda Bridge in Harjasari sub-district, South Bogor sub-district, to ensure it is on target and directly impacts the community.

First Deputy Chairman of the Bogor City Council, M Rusli Prihatevy, stated during the groundbreaking ceremony on Friday that the infrastructure development must address residents’ needs, particularly in enhancing access and economic activities.

“Our message is that this construction must be on target and truly felt by the community. This bridge is not just infrastructure, but also the lifeline of the residents’ economy,” said Rusli.

He added that the DPRD will continue to carry out its supervisory function to ensure the construction proceeds according to plan and provides optimal benefits, including facilitating residents’ access to educational facilities and places of worship.

The construction of the Garuda Bridge is part of a national programme initiated by the Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI) through collaboration with the Bogor City Government and DPRD.

Bogor Deputy Mayor Jenal Mutaqin explained that the programme targets the construction of 10 to 15 bridges every month in various regions of Indonesia as an effort to equalise infrastructure.

“The bridge in Harjasari is very strategic as a form of the state’s presence through the synergy of TNI and Police in assisting the community,” said Jenal.

Meanwhile, Commander of Kodim 0606/Bogor, Colonel Cavalry Gan Gan Rusgandara, stated that for the Korem 061/Surya Kancana area, the target is to build one bridge every month.

He explained that the location determination is carried out through surveys together with the City Government and DPRD, considering the level of urgency, especially those connecting areas and supporting residents’ access to education and the economy.

“We also involve the community in the construction process to build a sense of ownership and jointly maintain this facility,” said Gan Gan.
