Bogor Besieged by Floods and Landslides
REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, BOGOR – Torrential rain has triggered a series of landslides and extreme weather events in several areas of Bogor City, West Java, resulting in damage to homes and forcing residents to evacuate on Monday (4/5/2026). In addition to landslides, flooding was also reported in Tanah Baru.
The Head of the Bogor City BPBD, Dimas Tiko Prahadisasongko, stated that the high intensity of rainfall was the main triggering factor, worsened by unstable soil conditions and riverbank erosion at several points. The Bogor City Disaster Mitigation Agency (BPBD) recorded at least 12 disaster incidents from Sunday (3/5) to Monday (4/5), dominated by landslide events spread across various sub-districts.
“High rainfall intensity is the primary trigger, compounded by unstable soil conditions and erosion along riverbanks,” Dimas said.
One incident occurred in Sukasari Ward, East Bogor, where a 30-metre-high landslide affected five residents’ homes. One resident was reported to have sustained injuries to the head and back after being hit by landslide debris.
A landslide also occurred in the Pasir Kuda area, West Bogor, which struck residents’ homes, forcing occupants to evacuate to relatives’ houses due to fears of follow-up landslides. In the Ranggamekar area, South Bogor, a follow-up landslide damaged most of residents’ homes and caused one minor injury. The BPBD noted urgent needs at the site, including the construction of retaining walls (TPT), temporary housing, and logistical assistance.
