Boehringer acquires plant

JAKARTA (JP): Pharmaceutical company PT Boehringer Ingelheim Indonesia has acquired a pharmaceutical manufacturing plant in Bogor, West Java, to enable it to manufacture its own prescription and nonprescription drugs

The company said in statement on Wednesday that the 9,130- square-meter factory, with a total investment of US$15 million, will start producing Boehringer Ingelheim Indonesia products in January 2002.

With the new factory, Boehringer Ingelheim Indonesia expects to begin exporting its products by 2003, it said.

The company, a subsidiary of Germany's Boehringer Ingelheim Group, has been producing medicinal drugs in cooperation with PT Schering Indonesia since 1969.

"After 32 years of joint operation (with PT Schering Indonesia) in Indonesia, we have decided to aggressively develop our business and establish an independent corporate identity," company president Ron Scobie said in the statement. (tnt)
