A body of a young boy was discovered in the waters of Sebotok Village, Moyo Island, Badas District, Sumbawa Regency, West Nusa Tenggara (NTB), on Friday, 27 February 2026. The remains are suspected to be those of a toddler from East Lombok who was previously reported to have drifted away whilst bathing in rainwater.

The discovery went viral on social media. Ipda Mulyawansyah, Public Relations Officer of Sumbawa Police, confirmed the finding.

“The social media post regarding the discovery of the body is accurate. The location is in Sebotok Village, Moyo Island,” he told detikBali on Friday evening.

He stated that the identity of the body has not yet been confirmed as officers were still travelling to the location.

“Regarding the identity, Sumbawa Police does not yet have the data. At this time, the investigation is still ongoing,” he said.

Based on clothing characteristics, the body is suspected to be Azril Filah Busairi (4), a resident of Karang Sukun Environment, Selong Village, East Lombok, who drifted away on Tuesday, 24 February.

“For confirmation, we are still waiting for the victim’s family who are travelling to Sumbawa,” he added.

Azril Drifted Away Whilst Playing in Rainwater

Previously, Azril was reported to have been swept by drainage current whilst playing in the rain at the edge of the drainage ditch in front of SDN 1 Selong.

Muhammad Darwis, Coordinator of Kayangan SAR Post, said the team received the report at 09.10 WITA and immediately began searching.

“We received information about the incident at 09.10 WITA. At approximately 10.49 WITA the team immediately went down to conduct a search,” Darwis said.

The search was conducted along the drainage line together with SAR personnel, police, BPBD, and community members.

Samsul Padli, SAR Coordinator for East Lombok, mentioned that the body found was wearing a blue shirt identical to the clothing Azril was last seen wearing.

“We have not confirmed it yet, only that the body is wearing the same colour shirt as the victim who drifted away a few days ago,” Samsul said.

Ipda Susana Ernawaty Djangu, Chief of Selong Police, said the family recognised the clothing, but confirmation of identity awaits examination at the location.

“The shirt matches exactly what Azril was wearing the last time, before drifting in the drainage ditch. However, we need to go to the location first to confirm,” concluded Susana.
