Body of Malaysian neglected in morgue

JAKARTA (JP): A corpse of a Malaysian man who died Thursday was still in Cipto Mangukusumo General Hospital's morgue yesterday.

The body of Chin Chong King, which had begun to decompose, has yet to be claimed or be picked up by relatives.

Ace, a morgue official, said the morgue had received the body Saturday from Husada Hospital in West Jakarta for an autopsy.

"We haven't done anything to the body because there's no official autopsy order from the police or Husada Hospital," Ace said.

He said Chin, 41, had a Malaysian passport, but an identification card stating he was a resident of Bekasi, West Java, was also found on his body.

Meanwhile, an official from Husada Hospital said Chin, who lived on Jl. Palapa, South Bekasi, died from a head injury.

"He fell in a bathroom (being knocked unconscious) and was treated here for three days," the official said. She declined to say who had brought Chin to the hospital and how the staff knew the cause of his injury.

She said immigration officials and police officers have been visiting the hospital since Thursday.

"The body was a problem (to the hospital). So we asked the police to take care of the body," another official from Husada Hospital said. (jun)
