Jakarta (ANTARA) - Indonesia’s National Counter-Terrorism Agency (BNPT) and the European Union are strengthening cooperation to protect society from terrorism threats in the digital space during a meeting in Jakarta on Monday (4/5).

BNPT Head Eddy Hartono explained that preventing terrorism is a top priority for the Indonesian government, including ensuring the digital space remains safe and is not exploited for spreading violent ideologies.

“One of the government’s latest steps is to open communication channels with Roblox game platform operators to comply with government regulations,” Eddy said at the meeting, as confirmed in Jakarta on Tuesday.

He referred to the mentioned government regulation as Government Regulation No. 17 of 2025 on the Governance of Electronic System Operators in Child Protection (PP Tunas).

He stated that the Ministry of Communication and Digital has summoned Roblox to adhere to PP Tunas.

On the other hand, BNPT’s presence in that summoning agenda is because the audience with Roblox is one form of terrorism prevention measures.

On the same occasion, Indonesia’s Ambassador to the European Union Andy Rachmianto conveyed that cyber terrorism issues are also a serious concern for the European Union.

Thus, he assessed that cooperation between Indonesia and the European Union is highly strategic in facing increasingly complex global threats.

“One of the issues of concern to the European Union is countering terrorism, particularly in cyberspace,” Andy stated.

Andy revealed that currently, Indonesia and the European Union are finalising the upgrade of relations from regular partnership to comprehensive partnership.

Within that framework, cooperation in counter-terrorism will be further strengthened, including information exchange, capacity building, and protection of society in the digital space.

The meeting of representatives from both countries reaffirmed the importance of synergy between domestic efforts and international cooperation in addressing terrorism threats.

Through the collaboration between Indonesia and the European Union, it is hoped that society can be better protected from exposure to harmful content and become wiser in using digital technology.
