The Secretary of Indonesia’s National Border Management Agency (BNPP), Brigadier General Makhruzi Rahman, conducted a field inspection of post-disaster conditions in Pidie Jaya District, Aceh. The visit was carried out to identify urgent community needs, particularly concerning basic infrastructure recovery.

This inspection was part of BNPP’s swift action to ensure effective cross-sectoral coordination in affected areas. Brigadier General Makhruzi explained that his presence in Aceh was a direct order from Home Affairs Minister Tito Karnavian, who heads the BNPP.

“This is a direct order from the Home Affairs Minister Tito Karnavian as Head of BNPP. We are here with our team to ensure that recovery acceleration runs optimally in affected areas,” said Brigadier General Makhruzi in his statement on Monday (9 March 2026), following his field inspection of post-disaster conditions in Pidie Jaya District on Saturday (7 March).

He further explained that BNPP has deployed teams to several districts affected by flash flooding. The Deputy for State Border Management at BNPP, Dr. Nurdin, was tasked with inspecting conditions in Bireuen District, while the Assistant Deputy for Physical Infrastructure at BNPP, Amrullah M. Ridha, inspected affected locations in Aceh Tamiang District.

According to Brigadier General Makhruzi, BNPP’s primary focus during the post-disaster recovery acceleration phase is clearing public roads that remain blocked by mud and sand deposits.

“Our observations show that many roads are still difficult for residents to traverse due to mud accumulation following the flood. This is a priority as it affects community mobility and economic activity,” he said.

Brigadier General Makhruzi also stressed that BNPP will promptly provide heavy equipment to affected areas, such as excavators and dump trucks to transport material to disposal sites.

“We will focus on Pidie Jaya, Bireuen, and Aceh Tamiang Districts. Heavy equipment support is urgently needed so road clearing can be completed faster and more effectively,” he added.

Dr. Nurdin, who conducted a direct inspection of affected areas in Bireuen District on Sunday (8 March), emphasised the importance of clearing flood debris to facilitate community road access.

“Today we, together with the Sub-district Head of Peusangan Siblah Krueng and the Acting Head of the Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) of Bireuen, inspected locations that will be worked on by the BNPP team. These flood debris mounds, if not promptly cleared, could cause flooding again during heavy rainfall,” explained Dr. Nurdin.

He added that the team will focus efforts on clearing soil mounds around main roads to restore normal access for residents.

“Hopefully this work can be completed quickly so that residents’ activities are no longer disrupted,” said Dr. Nurdin.

From the sub-district government, the Sub-district Head of Peusangan Siblah Krueng in Bireuen District, Afrizal, reported that eight villages were severely affected, including Kubu Village, Teupin Raya, Lueng Daneun, Pante Baro Kumbang, and Pante Baro Keupanyang.

He hoped that central government support could expedite the clearing of main roads that connect various sub-districts.

“This road is vital for our community. We hope the clearing assistance can be realised soon,” he said.

Similar remarks were made by the Acting Head of the Regional Disaster Management Agency of Bireuen, Doli Mardian, who also accompanied Dr. Nurdin. He appreciated BNPP’s presence in Bireuen District as a flood-affected location.

“We hope that after the work in Peusangan Siblah Krueng Sub-district is completed, other affected sub-districts can also receive assistance. BNPP’s presence gives us hope that road access will return to normal,” he said.

The direct presence of BNPP teams in Aceh’s flash flood-affected areas demonstrates the state’s concrete role in ensuring rapid, coordinated, and targeted recovery. Through synergy with regional governments and relevant agencies, BNPP is committed to supporting infrastructure recovery and post-disaster community life, whilst strengthening regional resilience sustainably.
