Jakarta (ANTARA) - The National Border Management Agency (BNPP) is strengthening supervision and services in the Sebatik Island border area, North Kalimantan, following the increase in homecoming traffic ahead of Eid al-Fitr 1447 Hijriah.

Head of the Sebatik State Border Crossing Post (PLBN) Hariman Latuconsina stated in Jakarta on Friday that 583 homecomers were recorded arriving through Sungai Nyamuk Port in the last three days up to H-2 Eid 2026.

This movement was dominated by domestic crossers utilising the sea route from Tarakan to Sebatik.

“Based on the data collected, 583 domestic crossers were recorded in the last three days. These crossings were dominated by people travelling for family visits and reunions during the Eid holiday,” said Hariman.

According to him, this surge in homecoming traffic indicates high mobility in the border region, necessitating strengthened services to ensure safe and orderly journeys.

In addition to passenger movements, logistics activities have also increased at Sungai Nyamuk Port. During the same period, eight ships were recorded unloading cargo to meet community needs.

The distribution of goods includes basic necessities, fuel oil (BBM), and other mixed items to maintain supply stability ahead of Eid al-Fitr.

Hariman emphasised that the readiness of personnel remains optimised even though the Sebatik PLBN facilities are not yet fully operational. Supervision and services continue to be enhanced to guarantee security, order, and comfort for the community in the border area.

BNPP is also encouraging the acceleration of full operations for PLBN Sebatik so that the quality of cross-border services can be further optimised, especially in facing mobility surges during major events like Eid.

These efforts are deemed important to support the smooth flow of people and goods while strengthening the role of border areas as distribution and mobility hubs for the community.
