The Secretary of the National Border Management Agency (BNPP) of the Republic of Indonesia, Makhruzi Rahman, demonstrated commitment to accelerating recovery in flood-affected areas by conducting a direct field inspection of the post-disaster situation in Pidie Jaya district, Aceh, on Saturday, 7 March 2026.

The field visit was conducted to directly assess the impact of the flash flooding and identify the urgent needs of the community, particularly regarding basic infrastructure recovery.

The inspection also formed part of BNPP’s swift action to ensure effective cross-sectoral coordination in the affected areas.

Makhruzi explained that his presence in Aceh was in direct response to instructions from the Minister of Home Affairs (Mendagri) Tito Karnavian, who heads the BNPP.

“We are here with our team to ensure that recovery acceleration can proceed optimally in the affected areas,” he said in a press release received by Kompas.com on Tuesday, 10 March 2026.

According to Makhruzi, the primary focus during the post-disaster recovery acceleration phase is clearing public roads still blocked by mud and sand deposits.

“Based on our observations, many roads remain difficult for communities to traverse due to mud accumulation from the flooding. This is a priority because it affects residents’ mobility and economic activity,” he stated.

Makhruzi affirmed that the agency would promptly deliver heavy equipment to the affected areas, such as excavators and dump trucks, to accelerate the material clearing process.

“We will focus on Pidie Jaya, Bireuen, and Aceh Tamiang districts. Heavy equipment assistance is urgently needed so that road clearing can be conducted more quickly and effectively,” he added.

“Today, Sunday, 8 March 2026, we inspected the location to be worked on by the BNPP team together with the District Chief of Peusangan Siblah Krueng and the Acting Head of the Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) of Bireuen. If these earth mounds from the flooding are not cleaned soon, they could cause waterlogging again during rainfall,” explained Nurdin.

He added that the team would focus work on clearing earth mounds around main roads to restore normal community access.

“Hopefully, this work can be completed quickly so that residents’ activities are no longer disrupted,” said Nurdin.
