BNPB Aims to Complete Sumatra Disaster Rehabilitation Within Three Years
The National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB) has reiterated that the rehabilitation and reconstruction of the Sumatra disaster, which occurred in late November 2025, is targeted to be completed within the next three years.
“Nationally, it has been set some time ago that the target for completing the Sumatra disaster rehabilitation is within three years,” BNPB Chief Suharyanto said in Tanah Datar, West Sumatra, on Wednesday 4 March, as cited by Antara.
Suharyanto said this had been established in the Master Plan for Rehabilitation and Reconstruction by the National Development Planning Agency (Bappenas), with the data locked as of 9 February 2026, and listed in each ministry and agency.
He noted that some permanent housing for communities affected by flash floods and landslides has been built in several districts and cities that are communal in nature.
“This is centrally built by the Ministry of Housing and Settlements. Then there is also assistance from the Tzu Chi Foundation and some from Danantara,” he said.
Meanwhile, Suharyanto said, communities wanting permanent housing on their own land will have it built directly by BNPB. “So this does not wait until temporary housing (huntara) is full, but in parallel. For those who can show land, we will build immediately,” he said.
Additionally, Suharyanto said that communities affected whose houses were damaged lightly or moderately and have not yet received stimulus funds can re-apply. The central government will subsequently propose its assistance.
For West Sumatra, stimulus funds as of Tuesday (3 March) have been provided to 126 households worth Rp2.8 billion. Meanwhile, for the three provinces affected by the disaster, government disbursements have reached up to Rp205 billion.
