BNI Returns Rp 28 Billion to Aek Nabara Parish and Apologises
JAKARTA - PT Bank Negara Indonesia (Persero) Tbk has conveyed an apology to the Catholic community in Indonesia, particularly to the congregation of Aek Nabara Parish in Rantauprapat, North Sumatra.
The apology was issued following the completion of the return of the congregation’s funds. The Credit Union of Aek Nabara Parish’s funds amounting to Rp 28 billion have been fully returned.
BNI’s Director of Human Capital and Compliance, Mudani Herlambang, delivered the apology during a press conference in Jakarta on Wednesday (22/4/2026).
“BNI extends its apologies to Catholics throughout Indonesia, especially the congregation of the Aek Nabara Parish Credit Union and the public for the discomfort experienced during this period,” he said.
Mudani stated that he understands the impact felt by the congregation. He hopes that this fund return will help maintain public trust in financial institutions.
“With the completion of this fund return, we hope that public trust can continue to be upheld. At the same time, this incident serves as a shared lesson for all parties, and BNI remains committed to providing the best services to the Indonesian public,” he added.
The fund return process was carried out in stages. BNI transferred Rp 21,257,360,600 on Wednesday (22/4/2026).
This transfer completes the previous return of Rp 7 billion conducted last week. The total funds returned amount to Rp 28,257,360,600.
“We view this process as a joint effort to resolve the issue amicably. Our focus is to ensure the resolution proceeds smoothly and provides certainty for all parties,” he said.
Treasurer of the Aek Nabara Parish Credit Union, Natalia Situmorang, stated that the funds have been fully received. She expressed thanks for the resolution.
“Today, with full joy, we have received the resolution of this issue through full payment from BNI in accordance with what we stated in our demand letter,” Natalia said.
