The Indonesian Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) has forecast the potential for significant weather events across several Indonesian regions during the first week of March 2026.

The development of a tropical cyclone precursor, low-pressure systems, and cyclonic circulation are triggering increased growth of rain clouds across various areas. The public has been urged to heighten vigilance against the potential for heavy to very heavy rainfall that may be accompanied by lightning and strong winds.

BMKG is monitoring Tropical Cyclone Precursor 90S, which is predicted to be located in the Indian Ocean south-west of Banten with maximum wind speeds of 20 knots and air pressure of approximately 1005 millibars. Over the next 24 to 72 hours, the cyclone precursor is expected to move westward and remain persistent, with potential for development into a low-category tropical cyclone.

Additionally, low-pressure systems have been detected in the Pacific Ocean north of Papua and in the Carpentaria Gulf. These systems are forming convergence and confluence zones in the Pacific Ocean north of Papua, waters south of East Nusa Tenggara, and northern Australia.

Cyclonic circulation has also been observed in waters north of West Kalimantan, forming convergence and confluence zones in the South China Sea region.

The combination of these atmospheric dynamics is increasing the potential for rain cloud formation across numerous Indonesian regions.

BMKG has urged heightened vigilance against the potential for heavy to very heavy rainfall in several areas. Regions in Central Java that are predicted to experience extreme weather include Cilacap, Banyumas, Purbalingga, Banjarnegara, Kebumen, Purworejo, Wonosobo, Mungkid, Boyolali, and Klaten.

Medium to heavy rainfall is also forecast to occur in several other regions. The public is urged to continuously update weather information through the official BMKG website (bmkg.go.id) and official BMKG social media channels.

Heightened vigilance is particularly necessary for areas prone to flooding, landslides, and strong winds due to the potential for high-intensity rainfall. Significant atmospheric dynamics are expected to persist over the coming days, potentially increasing the risk of hydrometeorological disasters.
