BMKG Warns of Potential Extreme Weather in 23 Areas of Central Java
BMKG warns of potential extreme weather in 23 districts in Central Java on Sunday (8/3). In addition to heavy rain with gusty winds and lightning, high waves still occur in the northern and southern waters of Central Java, posing risk to shipping.
Forecaster Arif N, from Ahmad Yani Semarang Meteorology Station, said the extreme weather could occur in mountainous areas, highlands, the western Pantura, and central Java. “Be vigilant for hydrometeorological disasters such as landslides, floods, and whirlwind as a consequence of the extreme weather,” said Arif.
He explained that from this morning some parts of Central Java are forecast to be cloudy with light rain in several parts of the eastern Pantura. As the day progressing into afternoon and night, light to moderate rain is expected to fall evenly across various areas.
BMKG also notes the potential for extreme weather including heavy rain with gusty winds and lightning in several areas, including Banyumas, Purbalingga, Banjarnegara, Wonosobo, Mungkid, Boyolali, Karanganyar, Sragen, Kudus, Ungaran, Temanggung, Batang, Kajen, Pemalang, Slawi, Brebes, Magelang, Salatiga, Pekalongan, Tegal, Bumiayu, Majenang, and Ambarawa.
Meanwhile, high waves continue in the waters of Central Java, with heights ranging from 1.25 to 2.5 metres. This condition is accompanied by rain and storms that could threaten maritime activities.
STAY ALERT
Maritime Forecaster at Tanjung Emas SeMarang, Shafira Tsanyfadhila, urged the public and sea-based activities to remain vigilant against these conditions. “Remain wary of activities in the Java Sea due to high waves accompanied by rain and storms,” she said.
Shafira explained that waves up to 1.25 to 2.5 metres in the northern Java Sea occur in areas such as Pekalongan–Kendal, Semarang–Demak, Jepara, Karimunjawa, and Pati–Rembang. In the southern waters, high waves run from Cilacap to Purworejo.
These conditions pose risks to shipping, especially fishing boats, barges, or cargo and passenger ships, particularly if wind speeds exceed 15 knots.
BMKG also forecasts that other parts of Central Java may still experience light to moderate rain. Winds are expected from the west to the north at 10–30 kilometres per hour. The air temperature in Central Java ranges from 18 to 32 degrees Celsius with humidity levels of 60% to 95%.
