BMKG warns of hot temperatures in North Sumatra due to dry Baratan winds
The public can expect higher daytime temperatures and the potential for dry, strong winds in certain areas. The Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) stated that North Sumatra is expected to be affected by dry and strong Baratan winds during mid-year, with low humidity. These winds are likely to reduce cloud cover from morning to midday in parts of the region, leading to more intense surface heating. βThe impacts include higher daytime temperatures and the potential for dry, strong winds in some areas,β a BMKG official said. In response, BMKG advises using sunscreen and staying hydrated, especially for those working outdoors during the day, to avoid dehydration, fatigue, and other adverse effects. Daytime heat supports the formation of rain clouds in the afternoon and evening, particularly in high-humidity areas. Given the volatile weather conditions, BMKG urges residents to regularly monitor official forecasts, early warnings, and extreme weather alerts via BMKG channels, including its website, InfoBMKG app, social media @infobmkgsumut, call centre 0821-6804-3653, or email bbmkg1@bmkg.go.id.
