BMKG: Parts of North Sumatra Prone to Rain on Saturday
Medan (ANTARA) - The Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) has forecasted that most areas of North Sumatra have the potential to experience light to moderate rainfall on Saturday, 14 March.
Putri Diana, a forecaster at BMKG Regional Office I, stated in Medan on Friday that on Saturday morning, the weather across North Sumatra is expected to be cloudy with potential light rain in Batu Bara District, Gunungsitoli, Langkat, Mandailing Natal, Padang Lawas, North Nias, South Nias, and Serdang Bedagai.
During the afternoon to evening hours, the weather is forecasted to be cloudy with potential light to moderate rainfall distributed across North Sumatra. Moderate intensity rain is likely to occur in several areas including Dairi, Langkat, Mandailing Natal, the Nias Islands, West Tapanuli, and Samosir.
During the night, light to moderate rain is still expected to occur across most of North Sumatra, with moderate intensity rain potential in Deli Serdang, Langkat, and West Tapanuli districts.
BMKG recorded air temperatures in North Sumatra ranging between 14 and 32 degrees Celsius, with humidity levels between 78 and 100 per cent. Winds are blowing from the south to south-westerly direction at speeds of 3 to 9 kilometres per hour.
“BMKG urges the public to remain vigilant against the potential for moderate intensity rain in the western slopes, mountainous areas, and eastern slopes of North Sumatra, as it could trigger hydrometeorology-related disasters such as flooding and landslides,” Diana said.
