Jakarta (ANTARA) — Indonesia’s Meteorological, Climatological and Geophysical Agency (BMKG) has identified three tropical cyclone systems emerging in waters surrounding Indonesian territory that have the potential to trigger extreme weather characterised by increased rainfall, strong winds and high waves across several provinces in the coming days.

BMKG head Teuku Faisal Fathani explained in Jakarta on Tuesday that as of Tuesday 07:00 WIB, three active cyclone systems are being monitored: Tropical Cyclone System 90S in the Indian Ocean south of Banten-West Java, Tropical Cyclone System 93S northwest of the Australian mainland, and Tropical Cyclone System 92P in the Gulf of Carpentaria south of South Papua.

“We are monitoring the movement of these three cyclone systems intensively around the clock. We urge the public to remain calm, but to increase vigilance against potential indirect impacts such as flooding or strong winds. Please ensure you only refer to BMKG’s official channels to avoid misinformation,” he stated.

Tropical Cyclone Systems 93S and 92P have a low probability of developing; however, collectively they continue to exert indirect impacts on Indonesian weather and maritime conditions.

According to BMKG officials, the emergence of the three cyclone systems is increasing air pressure gradients, which strengthen surface wind speeds and trigger the concentration of air masses. This situation is intensified by warm sea surface temperatures in southern and eastern Indonesian waters, as well as the formation of wind convergence zones extending from Bali to East Nusa Tenggara (NTT).

Strong winds are forecast to affect Bali, Yogyakarta, Banten, Jakarta, West Java, Central Java, East Java, Lampung, Maluku, West Nusa Tenggara, East Nusa Tenggara, South Sulawesi, and the southern coast of South Papua.

The BMKG is urging the public and relevant authorities in affected regions to increase vigilance against the possibility of extreme weather in the coming days.
