BMKG Issues Early Flood Warning for East Kalimantan 11-20 March 2026: Check Affected Areas
The Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) at APT Pranoto Meteorological Station in Samarinda has urged East Kalimantan residents to remain alert to potential hydrometeorological disasters. The warning follows predictions of medium-category rainfall with a probability exceeding 90 per cent expected to affect the region during the period 11-20 March 2026.
Head of the Class III Aji Pangeran Tumenggung (APT) Pranoto BMKG Samarinda Station, Riza Arian Noor, revealed that rainfall across most of East Kalimantan is predicted to reach 50-150 millimetres (mm).
Riza explained that the high probability of rainfall poses a risk of triggering various disasters that could disrupt residents’ activities and safety.
Based on deterministic rainfall data for the second ten-day period of March, BMKG has identified several areas predicted to experience “Above Normal” rainfall characteristics (116-200 per cent), including Kutai Barat District, Kutai Kartanegara District, Kutai Timur District, Mahakam Ulu District, and Berau District.
Historical records show that during the first ten-day period of March (1-10 March), extremely high rainfall was recorded in Barong Tongkok District, Kutai Barat District, with accumulation reaching 313 mm.
The public is urged to remain vigilant, particularly during prolonged heavy rainfall, and to continuously update weather information through official BMKG channels to minimise the impact of disaster risks. BMKG has also issued warnings for extreme weather across other Indonesian regions, including Balikpapan through Berau on 9-11 March 2026, with potential threats of heavy rainfall, flooding, and landslides. Residents are advised to increase vigilance against potential hydrometeorological disasters such as flooding, landslides, and fallen trees resulting from extreme weather conditions.
