BMKG Forecasts Cloudy Conditions in Several Cities on Tuesday
Jakarta (ANTARA) – Indonesia’s Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) forecasts that cloudy to heavily overcast conditions could affect several cities across the country on Tuesday.
According to BMKG’s forecast, monitored from Jakarta, cloudy conditions are expected in Pekanbaru, Riau, Jakarta, Bandung, Semarang, Yogyakarta and Surabaya. Moderate rain is possible in Serang, Banten.
“Cloudy conditions are also possible in Denpasar, Mataram and Kupang,” BMKG forecaster Evi said.
Light rain is possible in Banda Aceh, Medan, Padang, Jambi and Bengkulu. Tanjung Pinang, Pangkal Pinang, Palembang and Bandar Lampung may experience misty conditions.
On the island of Kalimantan, BMKG forecasts possible light rain in Tanjung Selor and Samarinda. Thunderstorms are possible in Pontianak, while haze is possible in Palangkaraya and misty conditions in Banjarmasin.
In Sulawesi, partly cloudy to heavily overcast conditions are possible in Makassar, Palu and Gorontalo. Light rain may affect Mamuju, while haze and misty conditions are possible in Kendari and Manado, respectively.
In Maluku and Papua, cloudy conditions are forecast in Jayapura. Light rain is possible in Ternate, Sorong, Jayawijaya and Merauke, while thunderstorms are possible in Nabire.
BMKG said cyclonic circulations forming in the Strait of Malacca and the South China Sea are triggering areas of wind convergence and slowdown in several regions. These conditions could increase the likelihood of rain-cloud formation in the affected areas.
The agency also urged the public to be alert to the possibility of locally heavy rain, even though dry weather is expected to remain dominant across much of Indonesia.
Coastal communities and sea transport users were advised to watch for waves of 2.5 to 4 metres in the Indian Ocean west of Aceh through Lampung, and in the Indian Ocean south of Banten through West Nusa Tenggara.
The public was advised to adjust activities to weather conditions and follow updates through BMKG’s official channels.
