A series of disasters have taken place in Indonesia recently,
particularly in the air transportation sector involving Garuda,
Merpati and other airlines. Every time an aircraft catastrophe
has occurred, we have never heard any clear and accurate
explanation regarding the causes of the disaster. Also, more
often than not, explanatory statements from the relevant
institutions have been contradictory of each other.

The mystery of the latest Garuda disaster might be unveiled if
the black box was discovered and the recorded conversation was
disclosed. In this way all parties could learn from each other's
experiences.

The important thing is not to find who is to blame, or what
causes the tragedy, but how to find the black box. Aircraft
tragedies occur almost every year. One may wonder whether a
tragedy is caused by human error, bad weather, or a defect of the
airplane. It is for the sake of clarity that the content of the
black box should be made known to the public so that there is no
need for prolonged debates on the causes of a disaster. Those who
are responsible for a tragedy, which may claim hundreds of lives,
should be brought to court.
