Denpasar – Bali’s Natural Resources Conservation Agency (BKSDA) released eight protected animals, including two eagles, at Lake Buyan-Lake Tamblingan Nature Tourism Park in Buleleng Regency.

“Together with our partners, we remain committed to conducting post-release monitoring for several months ahead,” said BKSDA Bali Head Ratna Hendratmoko in Denpasar on Saturday.

The eight protected animals included one Philippine eagle (Nisaetus cirrhatus), one crested serpent eagle (Spilornis cheela), two Javanese porcupines (Hystrix javanica), and four palm civets (Paradoxurus hermaphroditus roditudus). The animals were either seized by BKSDA or surrendered by the community.

The habituation process aims to ensure the released animals adapt well to their new habitat and strengthen natural populations. Additionally, all animals underwent health examinations and habitat suitability assessments before release.

Lake Buyan-Lake Tamblingan Nature Tourism Park was selected as the release site as it was deemed ideal for supporting the habitat characteristics and survival of the released animals.

The release is expected to increase animal populations in the Lake Buyan-Lake Tamblingan area and represent a concrete step in conservation efforts at the local level. The initiative also aims to raise community awareness and concern for nature conservation and wildlife protection, with residents expected to participate in monitoring activities.

“Monitoring is essential to ensure the success of the release and gather data on animal adaptation to their new habitat,” added Ratna.

The release event was attended by village elders, local administrators, police, media, and non-governmental organisations.
