Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Central Executive Board of the Indonesian Mosque Youth and Adolescents Communication Agency (DPP BKPRMI) has expressed support for the implementation of Government Regulation Number 17 of 2025 on the Governance of Electronic Systems in Child Protection (PP Tunas). According to DPP BKPRMI General Chairman Nanang Mubarok, the implementation of this regulation represents the state’s presence in protecting Indonesia’s young generation from the threat of moral degradation amid the current digital era. “DPP BKPRMI fully supports the implementation of PP Tunas as a manifestation of the state’s presence in protecting Indonesian children from the threat of moral degradation in the digital era,” said Nanang when contacted in Jakarta on Saturday. He further explained that, from an Islamic perspective, safeguarding the younger generation (hifdzun nasl) is part of maqashid syariah, or the objectives of sharia. Nanang also assessed that PP Tunas serves as an important milestone amid the rapid flow of digitalisation, which presents various challenges for children, ranging from exposure to negative content, cyberbullying, digital exploitation, to gadget addiction that impacts mental and social health. According to him, the regulation affirms that the digital space is not a value-free zone, but must become a safe, healthy ecosystem that supports optimal child development. Furthermore, he conveyed that DPP BKPRMI views Indonesia, as a country with a large young digital population, as facing serious challenges, where the demographic bonus could potentially turn into a burden if not accompanied by a strong moral and mental foundation. In that context, PP Tunas is deemed to have strategic objectives, such as protecting children from harmful content, encouraging digital platforms’ responsibility for child user safety, and strengthening the state’s role in overseeing cyberspace. Additionally, DPP BKPRMI encourages the transformation of mosques into centres for digital literacy and youth development through various programmes, including education on social media use, mentoring for children and adolescents, and campaigns for healthy digital practices based on Islamic values. Moreover, BKPRMI emphasises the importance of multi-stakeholder collaboration in implementing PP Tunas, from government, digital platforms, to parents and communities. According to Nanang, without such collaboration, the regulation risks being strong on paper but weak in field implementation. BKPRMI also invites all elements of the nation to make PP Tunas a momentum for a national movement in building an excellent, morally upright generation ready to welcome Golden Indonesia 2045. “If we want to see the future of the nation, then look at how we protect our children today,” he stated.
