Billiard team urged to win

JAKARTA (JP): The national billiard and snooker team needs a morale boosting win in a trilateral tournament in Singapore from Oct. 15 to 20, before entering the 18th Southeast Asian Games in December.

Chairman of the National Sports Council Wismoyo Arismunandar urged the 16 billiard and snooker players yesterday to learn from their experiences during the warm-up competition. Athletes from Indonesia, Singapore and Brunei will pit their skills in a tournament which follows the SEA Games format.

The 18th SEA Games billiard and snooker competitions offer 12 gold medals, with Indonesia poised to steal two from both singles and doubles nine-ball rotations. Coach Andrie Ben, however, said that Indonesia could add another gold from singles English billiards. (amd)
