BI Survey Indicates Indonesian Consumers Confident in Continued Economic Growth
Bank Indonesia’s Consumer Confidence Survey records that consumer confidence in the economy remains steady in April 2026. This is reflected in the Consumer Confidence Index (IKK) at an optimistic level, with an index above 100.
Executive Director of the Communication Department at BI, Ramdan Denny Prakoso, stated that the IKK for April 2026 was recorded at 123.0, an increase from the previous month’s 122.9.
“The maintenance of consumer confidence in April 2026 is primarily supported by an increase in the Current Economic Conditions Index (IKE), recorded at 116.5, higher than the previous month’s index of 115.4,” said Denny, quoted from his statement on Monday, 11 May 2026.
In more detail, the survey results show that the rise in IKE is supported by increases in the Job Availability Index (IKLK) and the Durable Goods Purchase Index (IPDG), recorded at 108.8 and 112.6 respectively, higher than the previous month’s 107.8 and 109.2.
Meanwhile, the Current Income Index (IPSI) was recorded at an optimistic level of 128.1, although lower than the previous month’s 129.2. On the other hand, the Consumer Expectations Index (IEK) remained at an optimistic level of 129.6, though lower than the previous month’s index of 130.4.
BI notes that the continued strength of IEK stems from optimism in income expectations, job availability expectations, and business activity expectations, recorded at 136.9, 127.7, and 124.1 respectively.
In the same survey results, BI also recorded that the average proportion of consumer income allocated to consumption (average propensity to consume ratio) in April 2026 was 72.1 percent, relatively stable compared to the previous month’s proportion of 72.2 percent.
The proportion of debt instalment payments (debt installment to income ratio) was 9.7 percent, lower than the previous month’s proportion of 10.2 percent. Meanwhile, the proportion of consumer income saved (saving to income ratio) was 18.2 percent, higher than the previous month’s proportion of 17.6 percent.
