Pontianak (ANTARA) - Bank Indonesia (BI) states that the contribution of the Kalimantan region to the national gross domestic product (GDP) has reached around 5-6%, despite its relatively small population of less than 20 million people.

“With a relatively small population, Kalimantan’s contribution to the national GDP is already around 5-6%. This demonstrates enormous potential,” said Deputy Head of the BI South Kalimantan Representative Office, Aloysius Donanto.

During the Capacity Building Opinion Maker event for the Kalimantan Region in Malang on Wednesday, Aloysius stated that this achievement indicates Kalimantan’s great potential to be further developed as one of the engines of national economic growth.

According to him, Kalimantan’s economic performance so far continues to show positive trends amid global challenges, with economic growth and investment remaining stable.

“Going forward, we need to encourage downstream industrialisation so that the existing potential does not stop at the upstream sector but can provide greater added value to the economy,” he said.

In addition, he assessed that strengthening the investment climate and increasing productivity are key to optimising Kalimantan’s economic potential, including equitable development across all regions.

BI also highlights the importance of the role of the public and stakeholders in maintaining economic stability, including through the consumption of domestic products and the management of accurate public information.

“The great potential possessed by Kalimantan must be supported by trust and collaboration from all parties to provide a more significant contribution to the national economy,” he stated.
