BI fraud trial postponed

JAKARTA (JP): The Bank Indonesia (BI) fraud trial adjourned yesterday at Central Jakarta District Court because the prosecutor was not ready with his sentence request.

Nawam Kawi, Roy Indra Kusnohadi and Andi Muis are charged with defrauding the central bank of Rp 7 billion (U$2.9 million).

Prosecutor Petrus Sambara said he needed more time to finish the request.

Presiding judge Gatam Taridi agreed and adjourned the session until Thursday.

Meanwhile, the Tanah Abang riot case, scheduled to be tried at the same court yesterday, was postponed until today.

It will be combined with two other sessions trying the same case.

Four of the eight defendants involved in the Tanah Abang riot were previously tried in three separate sessions.

All defendants are accused of inciting violence, harming people and damaging state property, including municipal buildings and seven cars in Tanah Abang, Central Jakarta, on Jan. 27. (12)
