BI Aims to Expand Cross-Border QRIS to Timor-Leste by 2026
Bank Indonesia (BI) plans to expand the use of Quick Response Indonesia Standard (QRIS) to India, Hong Kong and Timor-Leste by 2026. This was stated by BI Deputy Governor Filianingsih Hendarta in a briefing on the results of the Deputy Governors Meeting (RDG), Wednesday (20/5/2026).
‘We will also expand cross-border QRIS in 2026 targeting India, Hong Kong and Timor-Leste,’ said Filianingsih.
Currently, cross-border QRIS is connected in six countries, both inbound and outbound transactions. The six countries are China, South Korea, Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore, and Japan.
According to Filianingsih, QRIS transactions in these six countries have shown a sharp increase in net inbound, at Rp 2.28 trillion to date. Besides expanding cross-border QRIS, BI will also expand QRIS Jelajah 2026. BI, continued Filianingsih, aims to use QRIS up to 66% of MSMEs across Indonesia.
‘We will expand QRIS Jelajah 2026 as part of the financial inclusion strategy to reach at least 66% of MSMEs to drive growth with the theme of archipelago culinary exploration paying with QRIS,’ said Filianingsih.
Volume of transactions through mobile apps and the internet respectively grew by 15.92% year-on-year and 22.95% year-on-year, including QRIS transactions which continued to grow strongly by 108.43% year-on-year.
