The National Nutrition Agency (BGN) has stated that 2,213 Nutrition Service Units (SPPGs) remain suspended to improve the quality of the Free Nutrition Meal Program (MBG). The suspension of thousands of SPPGs takes into account public feedback, local officials’ input, surprise inspections (sidak), and monitoring of incidents affecting beneficiaries.

“From the launch of the MBG on 6 January 2025 until 29 May 2026, out of the total 27,208 SPPGs currently operating across Indonesia, 8,182 have been suspended at some point,” said Nanik S. Deyang, BGN’s Deputy Head of Public Communication and Investigation, in a statement on Monday.

Nationwide data shows that 8,182 SPPGs have been suspended in total, with 5,659 resuming operations after meeting requirements. Meanwhile, 2,213 remain suspended for failing to comply with technical guidelines on management and facility infrastructure.

In Region III—which includes Kalimantan, Sulawesi, Nusa Tenggara, Maluku, and Papua—out of 4,646 operational SPPGs, 399 remain suspended.

SPPGs face suspension for various reasons, including menus causing digestive issues, diarrhoea, or vomiting; serving meals below the allocated budget of Rp8,000 and Rp10,000; deliberate price mark-ups of ingredients; or non-compliance with facility layout technical guidelines.

The number of suspended SPPGs may rise further, as BGN now requires each unit to distribute MBG to at least 300 beneficiaries from pregnant women, nursing mothers, and toddlers (3B).

“If SPPGs fail to provide data on MBG distribution to the 3B group by 2 June 2026, they will face major suspension (without incentives) and their heads will receive a stern warning,” Nanik said.
